Tips for the Short French Manicure

The beauty of the French manicure is that it works on any kind of nails, whether they are short or long, narrow or wide, square or round. A lot of women are under the impression that this manicure works best on medium to long nails. However, it actually is a great manicure for short nails. Check out this tips for a fabulous short French manicure.

  • 1. Prepare your nails

In order to rock this manicure, you must first prepare your nails. Start by trimming them and them file their edges. As a general tip, short nails look better with a round shape rather than a square one. If you dislike the round nail shape, choose a mixture between the square and the round shape. In order to do this file your nails so that they have a straight edge but try to make the corners rounder. Once you are done with the nail filing, apply cuticle oil, push the cuticles towards the base of the nails and then apply a base coat on your nails.

  • 2. French Illusion

The great thing about the French manicure is that it allows you to create the illusion of longer nails. Even if you apply the nail guides in a normal way, just above the natural white tips, your nails will still look longer. However, if you want them to look even longer, you can apply the nail guides slightly above the natural tip of the nail. This works better if you have natural elongated nails. If your nails are rather very short, you can try a v-shaped French manicure in order to make them look longer.

  • 3. Top coat

The color of the top coat for the short French manicure is a matter of personal style. You can choose pink shades, beige shades or you can even pick a transparent top coat. Frankly a transparent coat is the best idea for the short nails since it will make the French model stand out, creating the illusion on longer nails.

  • 4. Experiment

The fact that you have short nails doesn’t mean that you have to stick to simple nail designs. Feel free to experiment with various colors. The french manicure can be revised in various ways if you use more than one color. You can also try a reversed short French manicure. As you can see, the possibilities are endless as long as you let your creativity go wild.
